As mentioned in the title, in this step of my journey i explored the world of Artificial Intelligence (AI) more deeply, going beyond the globallly respected AI tool ChatGPT. This time, our ICT course task was to interact with an AI tool, choosing either a typical AI chatbot or a characterized one. I chose to engage with the characterized AI, interacting with world-renowned linguist Noam Chomsky. Our instructor introduced us to an AI platform called "Magic School" /https://app.magicschool.ai/magic-student/tools/, which offers a wide range of fascinating AI tools such as various chatbots, a summarizer, AI tutors, career counselor, and even a joke creator. These are just a few examples, as the platform features tools specialized for different purposes, including college and career counselor, mathematics, language learning and so on. There are also two versions of the platform: one tailored for students and the other designed for educators.

Interacting with the characterized AI version of Noam Chomsky was both insightful and interesting. I asked questions related to his career and renowned theories on language acquisition. The responses were informative, thought-provoking and closely aligned with his linguistic views. The experience felt educational, engaging, and realistic, almost like interviewing the real Noam Chomsky. Therefore, this task challenged me to think critically to generate effective questions in order to create a meaningful and informative conversation. I didn’t encounter any major difficulties while using Magic School’s chatbot and writing feedback tool, except a minor issue I experienced when logging into my account.

After being introduced to Magic School platform, i realized how flexible and helpful AI tools can be. I used both the writing feedback tool and character chatbot, and found them to be well-developed and capable of responding effectively anything I asked. I would definitely use similar AI tools in my future teaching career, creatively and purposefully, by using their unique strengths. For example, the character chatbot i used in this task could help engage students by interacting with them through their favorite celebrities or role models. This approach will make lessons more interesting and enjoyable for students, while assisting teachers to creating a dynamic learning environment.

When it comes to language learning, the most major benefits of AI is personalized learning, constant availability, practicality, and affordability. The learning process varies from person to person, and language learning is not a solo journey. Where there is a language, there must be communication between at least two people. Therefore, AI tutors can serve as effective and helpful teachers, offering personalized support, practical guidance, 24/7 availability, and as a bonus, unlimited energy. However, Ai tools also come with several drawbacks that need to be considered. One crucial drawback is the risk of over-reliance on technology. Both students and teachers may become too dependent on AI-generated tools, which can negatively affect critical thinking skill, creativity, and overall confidence. Another limitation of AI is its accessibility. Not everyone has consistent access to AI tools, even though AI tools are generally more affordable than personalized tutors.

In the end, Magic School was an eye-opening experience with AI tools. If I showed this platform to my parents, they would definitely say, “We wish we had things like this in our time,” as they always do.
